Here is some good news for mobile savvy callers as mobile phone users may soon have the choice to make voice calls over a wi-fi network, besides the conventional form of voice calling. This facility, pundits say may prove useful especially in areas with poor call connectivity.
This facility will become possible as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) amended license conditions on Wednesday, allowing telecom companies to allot a single mobile number for both cellular mobile service and internet services.
This facility will allow telecom companies to offer voice call over wi-fi service – even without mobile network.
The service will help a mobile user initiate an internet call using the nearest public wi-fi network, and route it to the destination mobile or landline network.
