COVID19 positive patient, Dr. Pradeep Bhowmik, a doctor of the department of medicine at GB Hospital, who was actively involved in the state’s fight against the deadly virus, has been shifted to Kolkata for better treatment.
The doctor was taken to Kolkata from Agartala by an air ambulance.
Dr Bhowmik, who is one of the renowned medicine specialists in Tripura, was undergoing treatment for COVID19 in an ICU since Monday night.
On Tuesday, the state government tried to send him to Kolkata for better treatment but it did not happen due to lack of an air ambulance.
Finally, Lastly on Wednesday noon, he was taken to Kolkata.
Dr. Bhowmik has been shifted to Apollo Gleneagles hospital at Kolkata.
He was supplied oxygen round the clock as his oxygen level went down.
Dr. Bhowmik is also a professor at Agartala Government Medical College.
He also performed duties in the COVID19 unit. He spent at a stretch of seven-days duty in the COVID unit of GBP hospital.
While on duty in the GBP hospital, he came in close touch with a patient, who tested COVID19 negative after test in the morning but in the evening the same patient tested positive.
Following imperceptible infection, Dr. Bhowmik tested positive for COVID19 last Friday and initially he was in home isolation.
But as he felt breathing problems on Monday, he had to be admitted to the ICU in GBP hospital where he was under treatment with constant oxygen supply.
Dr. Rajesh Choudhury, secretary of All Tripura Government Doctors Association (ATGDA), said till date, more than 80 doctors in Tripura have been infected by COVID and among them, Dr. Bhowmik’s condition is most critical.
