Agartala: A cadre of the banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), serving a life sentence for a murder case, has reportedly escaped from the central correctional home at Bishalgarh in Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

Police sources said that the disappearance of Swarna Kumar Tripura, associated with the outlawed outfit, was discovered during the morning roll call of inmates by the authorities.

“Swarna Kumar Tripura was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in a murder case in South Tripura’s Santirbazar area. He was being held at the central correctional home. Following the incident, all police stations and BSF were also alerted. We have launched a manhunt to apprehend the fugitive,” a senior police official said who didn’t wish to be quoted.

This is not the first time Swarna Kumar Tripura has escaped confinement.

He managed to evade custody twice before in 2016 and another time from the Kanchanpur sub-jail in 2022.

Soon after the incident Sepahijala Superintendent of Police, Bogati J Reddy, and Sepahijala District Magistrate Nagesh Kumar visited the correctional home and initiated a probe into the incident.
