AGARTALA: A three-member special national investigation agency (NIA) team has taken into custody the “most wanted” human trafficker – Hannan Mia (40) – in Tripura.

The special NIA team flew Mia to Guwahati in Assam to present him before the NIA special court on Monday (May 20).
Mia was arrested following an operation, which was conducted by officials and personnel of the Bishalgarh police station in Tripura, led by its officer-in-charge Rana Chatterjee, on Sunday (May 19).
Tripura police informed that captured Hannan Mia carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh, declared by the NIA.

Mia allegedly had connections with international human trafficking rackets and he trafficked teenage girls, exploited them in prostitution rackets, forged Indian documents, and engaged in other illegal activities.
Following Mia’s arrest, the Tripura police notified the NIA.
Subsequently, a three-member team from the NIA arrived from Guwahati in Assam and presented Mia before the court, securing a four-day transit remand to bring him before the special NIA court.
