Farukh Ahmed from Tripura is the lone representative from the Northeast at the 45th WorldSkills International Competition to be held at Kazan in Russia from August 22 to August 27 next.
Ahmed will be competing at the Bakery competition of the event.

The 48-member Indian contingent for the WorldSkills International Competition was announced in New Delhi on Wednesday by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
Also referred to as ‘Olympics for Skills’, it is the biggest showcase of skills excellence in the world.
Around 1500 participants from 63 countries will be battling it out in 56 skills.

India will take part in 44 skill events in the competition.
Mobile robotics, prototype modelling, hairdressing, bakery, etc., are some of the events in which India will take part.
The 48 members who were selected for the finals, have gone through a series of selection process over a period of one year and have enlisted their names in the final list.
Around 77 per cent of the participants come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities and share a humble background with majority’s parents either employed in the agriculture sector or are working as daily wage earners.
The 2019 Indian contingent for the WorldSkills International Competition is the sixth-largest.
India was ranked 19 among 56 countries in the 2017 edition of the competitions held in Abu Dhabi.
In the 2017 edition, India won one silver medal, one bronze medal and nine medallions of excellence.
WorldSkills International Competition is held every two years.
