Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Friday threatened to take actions against certain media houses for spreading “fake news” regarding COVID-19 in the state.
“Some newspapers are publishing confusing news related to COVID-19 medical management,” Deb said while laying the foundation of the Special Economic Zone at Sabroom.

“Neither history will forgive them nor will I forgive them. These media houses and newspapers are spreading fake news and scaring people,” he said.
The comment comes at the backdrop of heavy criticism the state health department has received and fingers being raised about the COVID-19 management in the state.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was also attended by union commerce minister Pijush Goyal via video conference.

The Special Economic Zone would see an investment of Rs 750 crore and it is expected to provide employment to around 5000 unemployed youths.
Speaking further, CM Deb said, “Tripura will become an industrial state in the coming days. Various industries like bamboo, cane, textile, etc. would be set up here in the future.”
“The Special Economic Zone will open new avenues for economic growth and employment generation in Tripura,” he further said.
“The business sectors of Tripura will be largely benefitted by the SEZ and Sabroom will play a key role in the development of the state,” he added.
