Guwahati: Eleven Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by railway police at Agartala railway station in Tripura on Saturday evening for attempting to enter India illegally.
Police said the group, consisting of five women and six men, lacked valid travel documents.
Acting on specific intelligence suggesting Bangladeshi nationals who crossed the border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district planned to board trains from Agartala station, railway police initiated a search operation.
“We detained eleven individuals, including five women, during our operation at Agartala railway station. They were brought to the Agartala GRP police station for questioning,” said Officer in Charge (OC), Tapas Das.
Questioning revealed none of the individuals possessed valid travel documents for entering India. “The Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally entering Indian territory. They will be presented before a court with a request for police remand to facilitate further investigation,” said Das.
Preliminary investigations indicate the group intended to travel to Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata for work opportunities.
“The possibility of human trafficking cannot be excluded at this time. We have launched a full investigation into this case,” Das added.
This incident follows the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering India at Agartala railway station on June 27th.
