Guwahati: The first death anniversary of legendary Assamese singer and musician Zubeen Garg will be observed with a three-day commemorative programme at Zubeen Kshetra from September 17.
The programme has been announced by Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, who said the event will bring together prayers, cultural activities and religious observances to honour his memory and contribution to Assamese music and culture.
September 17 will be observed as ‘Zubeen Divas’, marking the beginning of the three-day programme. People from across Assam are expected to take part in the commemorative events.
The opening day will be dedicated to prayers in memory of the singer, with the programme focusing on paying tribute to his life and seeking peace for his soul.
The subsequent events will feature a range of cultural programmes reflecting Garg’s lasting influence on Assam’s cultural and musical landscape. His work and association with Assamese music have continued to resonate with generations of listeners across the state.
A ‘Bhagawat Naam’ ritual will be held on the third day, with prayers offered for the peace of Garg’s soul.
Garima Saikia Garg has also appealed to people to participate in the three-day programme and join the family and admirers in commemorating the singer’s legacy.
