Keeping in view of the bandh called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NEO) on Tuesday, the Tripura education department has cancelled all the examinations scheduled for Tuesday.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has also cancelled six trains and partially cancelled four other trains due to the bandh.

On Monday, at least 17 teachers were injured as they were attacked by anti-CAB protestor when they went to schools for taking the examinations of Class X and Class XII.

The incident took place in Khowai district.

Examinations were postponed on Monday in several schools across the state due to bandh called by the IPFT and other regional parties in protest against the CAB.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2019 was passed in the Lok Sabha in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday amid protests.

The bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have migrated to India after facing persecution on grounds of religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh if they fulfil conditions for grant of citizenship.

After the Khowai incident, Tripura education minister Ratan Lal Nath called for a meeting with the department officials on Monday night.

After the meeting, the state government announced that the scheduled examinations on Tuesday were cancelled.

The next date of examination would be announced later.

On the other hand, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has cancelled six trains in Tripura and partially cancelled four trains.

An NFR official release said in view of indefinite period of strike in Tripura from December 9, the 07682/07689 Agartala-Sabroom-Dharmanagar DEMU, 07690/07681 Dharmanagar-Sabroom-Agartala, 07684/07683 Agartala Sabroom- Agartala, 07688/07687 Agartala-Sabroom-Agartala 55679/55680 Agartala-Dharmanagar-Agartala, and 55676/55675 Dharmanagar-Agartala-Dharmanagar have been camcelled.

Besides, some trains have also been cancelled partially.

The 55663 Agartala-Silchar passenger train would remain cancelled between Agartala and Dharmanagar and would originate from Dharmanagar and 55664 Silchar-Agartala passenger train would be short-terminated at Dharmanagar and would remain cancelled between Dharmanagar and Agartala.

The Agartala-Sealdah Kanchanjunga express has also partially cancelled.

After the bandh is over, one passenger special train would run from Dharmanagar to Agartala with stoppages of 55664 passenger train.

Several indigenous tribal political parties, which have formed a joint forum namely Joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB), called for an indefinite Tripura bandh.

The JMACAB-sponsored indefinite Tripura bandh stared from Monday morning.

The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has also called for Northeast bandh on Tuesday against CAB.
