“A team of Tripura Police has left Aizawl on Sunday to bring the militant leader to Tripura,” said the director general of Tripura Police, VS Yadav.

Yadav said, “Besides NLFT (BM), there is another active militant group called NLFT (Parimal). Parimal Debbarma was earlier a member of the NLFT (BM) group. In 2014, he returned to his normal life.”

“Parimal was in the state for two years. In 2017, he fled again to Bangladesh. There he formed his own separate team with NLFT members. Recently he was in Aizawl,” he added.

The Tripura DGP said, “Parimal Debbarma came to Aizwal on March 11. The news came to the police from inside the group. After receiving the information, Mizoram Police was contacted by Tripura Police and Parimal Debbarma was arrested on Friday night on the basis of inputs provided by Tripura Police.”

Yadav said the group was very enthusiastic about the upcoming Autonomous District Council elections in Tripura.

He said leaders of a national political party were also in touch with the militant group.

The Tripura DGP said those political leaders, who were in touch with the militant outfit, will be interrogated.
