Tripura Police has arrested Hiranmoy Tripura, a cadre of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) from Raisabari in Dhalai district in connection with extortion calls made to several people over the past few days.
The police produced the cadre in the Gandacherra sub-divisional court on Wednesday.

The judge remanded him to judicial custody till January 22.
Hiranmoy is a resident of Manyakumar Para in Raisabari.
According to police sources, two cases were recently filed at the Gandacherra and Raishyabari police stations in connection to extortion calls made by NLFT extremists to a few local businessmen and government employees.

The 38-year-old Hiranmoy had reportedly been threatening a few businessmen in the area to pay up the extortion money.
He had also threatened an engineer over the phone to pay up the money demanded by the extremist group.
Hiranmoy reportedly called two people from Raisabari using two SIMs from Bangladesh and one from India.
Police believed that they will recover more information about operations of NLFT from the young man during interrogation.
The police have been able to identify the young man using advanced technology and they have received information about more people being involved in the extortion racket.
NLFT extremists had also abducted three workers from Gandacherra in Dhalai in December last year.
