The left organizations in Tripura observed the 71st Republic Day on Sunday as ‘Save Democracy Day‘.

In the occasion, the left parties of the state formed a 3-kilometre human chain in Agartala.

Leaders and members of CPI(M), CPI, RSP, AIFB and CPI(ML) took part in the protest.

Senior CPI (M) leader and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with other left leaders like Gautam Das, Bijan Dhar also participated in the human chain.

Senior CPI (M) leader Pabitra Kar claimed that at least 2000 people participated in the human chain.

“The Constitution is not safe in BJP’s hands of BJP. They don’t care about the democratic system,” Kar said.

“BJP is trying to change the Constitution. For this reason the Republic Day this year has been observed as Save democracy Day,” the leader further said.

The leader further informed that the participants later took an oath to save the Constitution.
