Kokrajhar‘s senior journalists Ajit Basumatary (The Sentinel) and Malaya Deka (Dainik Jugasankha) on Sunday were feted at the 71st Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.

The awards were given away by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary, who also hoisted the Tri-colour at Kokrajhar Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose school playground.

In his speech, Mohilary urged the citizens to maintain peace and harmony and work for unity and development of the country.

Mohilary also thanked the Central government for initiating the peace process with NDFB (S) and taking steps for finding a permanent solution to the Bodo issue.

“Something good will come out of the Accord,” Mohilary said.

Republic Day was also celebrated in a befitting manner at NTPC Bongaigaon.

Rakesh Kumar, Group General Manager of NTPC Bongaigaon, hoisted the Tri-colour and addressed the gathering.

In his address, Kumar spoke about Republic Day’s significance and NTPC’s role in the nation-building process.

This was followed by a colourful cultural programme to earmark the occasion.

The main highlight of the day was the tableau presentation by Bal Bhawan, EWA and O&M Department.

The HoP (Head of Project) Merit Awards were also given to employees who excelled in their work and this was followed by prize distribution to winners of different competitions.
