While 27 rebels of the NDFB (S) have returned to Assam from its camps in Myanmar, two top leaders of the outfit B Bidai and K Batha have not returned with this group, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta confirmed this on Friday.
DGP Mahanta said two prominent members of the outfit G. Bidai, the NDFB (S) army chief and K. Batha have not returned with this group of NDFB cadres.
“We appeal to them to also return to the mainstream and participate in the peace process,” he added.
Bidai and his deputy K. Batha are reportedly hiding in the dense jungles along the Indo-Bhutan border.
Mahanta said NDFB (S) chief B Saoraigwra, general secretary BR Feranga and “finance secretary” B Dwmwilu are among the 27 NDFB (S) rebels who have returned to the state.
The DGP said the group, who have been kept at a location which cannot be disclosed, has signed an agreement to abjure violence and join peace talks with the government.
The government has suspended operations against the outfit, Mahanta said.
The tripartite agreement was signed by representatives of the NDFB (S) and the central and Assam governments, the officials said.
