Former Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president and ex-MLA Gopal Roy said, “Not only balloons, we also showed black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Roy also said, “Narendra Modi has failed to fulfil the promises he had committed to the people of India around five years back. People have understood that all were ‘jumla’ and he is just a director general of ‘jumla’ in India.”
He also claimed that “people are frustrated and have started agitating in Northeast India”.
There has been massive protests in Assam and similar protest was there in Arunachal Pradesh where people were shouting slogans like ‘go back Modi’.
“In Tripura also, the indigenous and plains people are fed up with the commitment Modi had made but still he is giving ‘jumla’ speeches,” said Roy.
Claiming that Modi is trying to introduce NRC in Tripura as it has been introduced in Assam where names of more than 40 lakh people were left out out from the final draft NRC,
Roy said, “It was done politically and minority Bengali-speaking Muslims have been tortured and harassed. Against all these things, the Congress has shown black flags as it was decided by the Congress earlier.”
At least at two spots, the protest was organised in the capital city.
While in front of the Congress headquarters here, the Youth Congress raised ‘Modi go back’ slogan with black flags and black balloons covered with black poly bags and posters demanding withdrawal of Citizenship Bill.
A large number of black balloons were noticed getting released from the palace compound area just behind the Ujjayanta Palace-cum-Museum near the residence of Tripura Congress working president Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma.
Meanwhile, there was a tussle between Youth Congress protesters and the police personnel who tried to stop them from staging protest.
However, little far from the Vivekananda Stadium, a large number of black balloons were noticed in the sky when the Prime Minister was addressing the gathering but it seems that the Congress protest did not come to the notice of the PM or the gathering.
