At least 17 persons were injured in a clash between the supporters of the CPI(M) and ruling BJP at Rajnagar of South Tripura on Saturday.
The incident took place while CPI(M) supporters were celebrating the 101st foundation day of the party at the Rajnagar office of CPI(M).
Local CPI(M) MLA Sudhan Das said, “The BJP supporters attacked our party workers when we were returning home after completing our party programme.”
The MLA said to protect themselves, the CPI(M) activists also retaliated.
According to Sudhan Das, it was an unprovoked attack by miscreants under the banner of the BJP.
It has been learned that at least 17 people were injured in the clash between the CPI(M) and BJP supporters in the Raj Nagar area under the Belonia sub-division.
The locals informed that while 7 CPI(M) workers were injured in the incident, 10 supporters of the BJP sustained injuries and they had to be hospitalized.
The CPI(M) has filed an FIR at the Rajnagar police station and named BJP workers and supporters including Pranab Debnath and Samrat Chowdhury for the unprovoked attack.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Dukli office of the CPI(M) was attacked by a group of miscreants while the party workers were observing the 101st foundation day of the party.
