At least seven BJP workers were injured and the vehicles they were travelling in were also damaged when they were attacked by miscreants on Wednesday night in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

Sources said a group of around 50 miscreants attacked the BJP workers with sticks and other sharp objects at Lhunwang village under the Singhat Assembly constituency in Churachandpur district.

“The miscreants also pelted stones on the BJP workers. At least four vehicles were damaged and seven party workers seriously injured,” said a BJP leader.

The Singhat (ST reserved) Assembly constituency is among the five constituencies where by-elections will be held on November 7.

The injured BJP workers were rushed to the Churachandpur district hospital.

The Manipur BJP has condemned the attack on its party workers.

BJP in-charge for the by-elections Benjamin Mate said his party is against any kind of violence.
