At least 29 troopers of the 8th battalion of Tripura State Rifles were injured in a bus accident in the State on Monday.
The accident took place at Baramra hills while coming from Laljhari headquarters of 8th battalion of TSR to Agartala to take a train on the following day to Chhattisgarh for attending election duty there.
Most of them sustained head injuries as the Swaraj Mazda bus they were traveling in fell into a gorge while the driver was trying to avoid a broken area in the road but couldn’t manage to negotiate it, said police.
Two of the critically injured jawans had to be shifted to Kolkata for better treatment.
State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman, Chief Secretary L K Gupta, Director General of Police A K Shukla and other senior police officials rushed to hospital and took note of the situation and spoke with the injured.
Deb later speaking to reporters said that it seems to be an accident and investigation will reveal the actual cause but with the grace of the Almighty most of the injured are in their senses though two of them have been referred by the board of doctors to Kolkata for better treatment.
Similarly was the view of the DGP who added that most of the injured are stable and it is an accident.
However, reports were pouring in from the spot of the incident of missing of arms and ammunition but the same couldn’t be confirmed.
