A tribal woman was beaten up in broad day light in a remote market of Khowai district of Tripura.

The incident took place 23 days back, that is on July 17 last in the Hazrapara market of Kakrachera ADC village under Mongiakami police station.

The victim lady has been identified as Jamati Reang, wife of Jotila Reang.

For the last 23 days, the poor victim is under treatment and recently referred to Teliamura hospital.

The attack was reportedly organized by one Dasarath Reang, known to be a CPI-M leader and ex village committee member along with Lab Kumar Reang and Charani Reang over removing the victim who was engaged as mid day meal helper in the Hazra para Senior Basic School.

A case has been filed in the Mongiakami police station, but reportedly initially police suggested the victim to withdraw the complaint and sort out the matter at the village level.

Meanwhile, the victim had to be admitted to the Teliamura hospital as there was no sign of improvement of her health condition and the matter came to the knowledge of the local journalists.

The video has become viral in the social media and as the report was telecast in a local cable TV news channel, National Women’s Commission member Sushma Sahu took the issue seriously and reportedly put pressure on the DGP A K Shukla demanding arrest of the culprits.

Finally on Wednesday evening one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
