Tripura Congress president Pradyot Deb Burman.

Tripura Congress president Pradyot Manikya Deb Burman on Thursday said he is not going to change his stance on the NRC update in the state.

“I am not going to withdraw my support to the petition filed in Supreme Court over NRC,” Deb Burman told Northeast Now on phone.

According to reports, Dev Burman had tendered his resignation on Monday, following his differences with AICC general secretary in-charge of the Northeast Luizinho Faleiro.

Party sources said differences between Deb Burman and Faleiro were cropped up after the party Northeastern states in-charge asked the TPCC chief to withdraw his support to the petition.

The Congress chief of Tripura is supporting the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) and Tripura People’s Front (TPF) and the petition filed in Supreme Court by the two parties over NRC update.

Dev Burman was appointed TPCC president by then party chief Rahul Gandhi in February 2019, after the BJP came to power in the State.

When asked about his resignation, he, however, refused to divulge details.

“This is an internal matter of our party. I can’t reveal anything at this point of time,” Deb Burman said.
