The parliamentarian from Tripura (east) and CPI-M chief whip in Lok Sabha Jiten Chowdhury on Monday severely raised his voice against the BJP-led NDA government’s unwarranted hurry in introducing the contentious citizenship bill in the Parliament, reports tripurainfo.com.
Chowdhury while strongly opposing the move of the BJP said that the bill is very controversial and most of the opposition parties have opposed this bill, so it will be inappropriate to introduce this bill so hastily.
Notably in order to help BJP achieve its end, the Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan hurriedly called a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) in which the BJP members sought two days extension of the on-going Winter Session with the sole aim of passing the controversial bill in this very session.
Even though the proposed extension of the session was rejected the bill will be placed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The CPI-M has been critical of the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on the ground that the amendment seeks to grant citizenship on the basis of religion.
