Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla on Wednesday distributed aids and assistive devices for persons with disabilities (divyangajans) worth Rs 1.50 crore under the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchasing/fitting of aids/appliances (AIDP) scheme among the differently-able persons during a Samajik Adhikarik Shibir (camp) at Kumarghat PWD field.

The programme was organised by the Social Welfare Department.

People from Unakoti, North and Dhalai districts of Tripura participated in the camp.

During the programme, assistive living devices were also distributed among senior citizens belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sampla was supposed to inaugurate the programme ast the Chief Guest at 12 in the afternoon but as the chopper – in which he was scheduled to fly to the venue – failed to fly on time, the Union Minister arrived at the camp by road and inaugurated the programme in the evening at 5.  Accessories like wheel chair, hearing machines and other aids were distributed among 2500 differently-abled persons.

The programme was attended by the Sabhadipati of Unakoti, Kalpana Debnath and others. Tripura Social Welfare Minister Bijita Nath and Lok Sabha MP Jiten Chowdhury missed the programme of the Central minister.
