Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who is presently covered under ‘Y’ category security, is all set to get ‘Z’ category security cover in the aftermath of fresh threat on his life, according to informed sources.
Sources revealed that on the basis of intelligence inputs, Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has alerted the top brass of the state police force that Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is in the hit list of drug mafia.

Earlier, on Tuesday Tripura’s former Minister and BJP MLA Ratan Chakraborty while interacting with media at the BJP headquarters in Agartala said, “The Union Home Ministry is very worried as Asia’s top kingpin and drug peddlers had organized a meeting at Myanmar’s capital and decided to eliminate Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.”
He also added, “They have declared the death penalty for him, so the Union Home Minister also had an emergency meeting and alerted the State Home Department in this regard. As he had launched the operation in Tripura against the drug mafias, so they may even try to take his life.”

Meanwhile, party general secretary Pratima Bhowmik also confirmed the report of threat from drug mafia.
“We have got inputs that drug mafias had assembled in Myanmar and vowed to kill the Chief Minister because of his crusade against drug and ganja smuggling,” she said.
Notably, the Chief Minister is in Bangalore for the launch of ISRO-Space Technology Incubation Centre at NIT, Agartala through video conference.

Deb is scheduled to return Delhi today to meet some Union Ministers and party leaders.
Meanwhile, the state police force has already drawn up a blueprint to beef up security coverage of the Chief Minister following the threat.
