Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is in the hit list of drug kingpins of Asia, who recently had a meeting in Myanmar’s capital to eliminate him, claimed a senior MLA of Tripura here on Tuesday quoting the Union Home Ministry.

Tripura Chief Minister Deb, who after coming to power six months back, launched a massive operation against drugs.

During the six months’ tenure, security forces in Tripura have seized more than 41,000 kg of marijuana, 80,000 bottles of contraband cough syrup, 1.35 lakh tablets (including Yuba manufactured in Myanmar), 2 kg heroin, 620-gram brown sugar and arrested more than 250 drug peddlers.

Expressing his worry during a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, Tripura’s former Minister and BJP MLA Ratan Chakraborty said, “The Union Home Ministry is very worried as Asia’s top kingpin and drug peddlers had organized a meeting at Myanmar’s capital and decided to eliminate Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.”

He added, “They have declared the death penalty for him, so the Union Home Minister also had an emergency meeting and alerted the State Home Ministry in this regard. As he had launched the operation in Tripura against the drug mafias, so they may even try to take his life.”

Chakraborty alleged, “The former CPM-led Left Front Government and its leaders have been aiding the drug mafias, who had been operating freely during their tenure. This can easily be understood for the unaccountable income and property of those leaders but as soon as the new BJP-IPFT Government came to power, the new CM announced to make Tripura a drugs-free State as a result of which the drug mafias are facing huge loss and many have fled the State,” adding, “This is the reason why the drug mafias are hatching a conspiracy to eliminate the Chief Minister of the State.”

Chakraborty was also accompanied by another MLA Rampada Jamatia and BJP senior leader Pratima Bhowmik.
