The 70th state level Vanamahotsava programme – 2019 was organized at Jolaibari in South Tripura on Tuesday where hundreds of students from various schools took part along with the local population.

The programme was inaugurated by chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb by planting sapling along with local MLAs and officials of the Forest department including PCCF Dr Alind Rastogi and it aimed at spreading the message that each one should plant and protest at least one sapling.
Addressing the gathering Deb said that everyone should come forward and plant trees for a better tomorrow.
He said that the State Government along with the Centre has taken initiative to ease the forest laws like putting bamboo out of the forest list and declaring it as grass so that the common people of the State can use it without much paper works and complication.

He said that Tripura being one of the Himalayan state which has more than 60 per cent forest cover and thus compensating the oxygen for those parts which has less forest, and so requested the 15th Finance Commission to allot us more fund for this.
Deb said that aiming to beautify the state and attract tourist the state government has kept 24 crore in the Budget for the declared scheme of Rs 200 every month for those families who shall plant flower and fruit plants on both sides of the black topped roads.
Thanking everyone who had joined him in the plantation drive Deb said, “Together we have to work for our environment and a green Tripura.”
Meantime, the Forest Minster Mevar Kumar Jamatia viewed that the State has to develop but since it has more than 60 percent of its land under forest cover so it has to be considered and policies has to be framed to protect it along and side by side continue the developmental activities.
Adding to them the PCCF spoke on the importance of the day and planting of trees for saving Mother Earth and at a time when global warming and climate change is the biggest challenge for the mankind.
The programme concluded with felicitation of forest officials and free distribution of more than 5000 saplings among the students and local villagers.
