Guwahati: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s memoir Belonging: A Journey of Love will be published by HarperCollins India on November 10, 2026, the publishing house announced on Friday.
The announcement follows Penguin Random House India’s decision not to publish the book, which came after what the publisher described as a “particular issue”.
HarperCollins India described the memoir as a detailed account that combines Sonia Gandhi’s personal experiences with her political life.
The publisher said the book covers her childhood in post-war Veneto, her relationship with Rajiv Gandhi that brought her to India and the losses that changed the course of her life and her adopted country.
The publisher also said the book offers a more personal account from Sonia Gandhi, who has generally maintained a private public profile.
The memoir had initially been scheduled for release by Alfred A. Knopf, which announced on August 18 that it would publish the book on November 10. Knopf had planned to begin with a print run of 1 lakh copies.
Penguin Random House India was reported to have withdrawn from the project last week following disagreements about editorial changes.
The publisher said suggestions that it had backed out because Gandhi refused to accept editorial recommendations did not accurately describe what happened.
Publishing sources also said disagreements remained between Gandhi and the publisher regarding her accounts of meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India-China relations, and the RSS.
