“The incidence of oral cancer remains alarmingly high in the North East. By promoting awareness and discouraging tobacco and alcohol consumption, along with reducing single-use plastic, we can curb the cancer burden. Prevention remains pivotal,” emphasized Dr. Saha.
Acknowledging the commendable performance of the Atal Bihari Regional Cancer Hospital (ABRCH) in Agartala, Dr. Saha affirmed the government’s commitment to expanding cancer treatment facilities.
“The ABRCH has emerged as a premier cancer institute in the North East. Our government, in collaboration with the hospital, aims to provide affordable and comprehensive cancer care. We have approved the allocation of 15 acres of land, free of cost, to Dr. R Ravi Kannan, an eminent oncologist and Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (CCHRC), to establish a new cancer hospital in the North District. This initiative will benefit residents of Unakoti as well, addressing the region’s specific health challenges related to dietary habits and tobacco use,” added Saha.
