Shiva Hang Limboo of Sikkim stood in the fourth position in his debut in the two-day 12 Hours Stadium Run held recently at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore.
Limboo covered the distance of 101.5 km in 12 hours to finish the run to secure the fourth position. The run started at 5 pm on August 4 and concluded at 5 am in morning on August 5, 2018.
Limboo is a student of Marathon Man of Sikkim, Amar Subba.
Twenty-two-year-old Shiva Hang hails from Timbrong village in West Sikkim and is working as a trekking guide in West Sikkim. He started running marathon from last year and has already participated in two major marathon events of Sikkim – Sikkim Run and Kanchenjunga Marathon last year.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Shiva Hang expressed his happiness and satisfaction over his debut performance in the Stadium Run. “I had targetted to cover at least 100 km in this competition and I am very happy that I have covered the distance of 101.5 km in 12 hours to finish the run in fourth position after running with the best ultra runners of the country,” he stated.
However, Limboo stated that the competition was a learning experience and motivation for him to practice harder to do better in this competition in the national and international levels. “As this was my first stadium night run, I was excited and nervous too. So, I made the fast start but got slower during last two hours of the competition, otherwise, I would be in the top three positions,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to his mentor, Amar Subba and all his well-wishers for their support and encouragement to do better in the competition.
Marathon Man of Sikkim, Subba said, “Being mentor, I can only guide and train him with the right techniques but he needs the support from all sides to take him further in the marathon. His performance in this Stadium Run has proved the he has lots of potential to do much better in the future.” He expressed that the achievement of Shiva Hang was the happiest and emotional moment for him.
“In my first 12 Hours Stadium Run at same stadium, I had covered the distance of 96 km in three hours, so I had a dream of covering more than 100 km which was finally fulfilled by my student. So, I am very happy and emotional too in the achievement of my student,” Subba said. He mentioned that Shiva Hang now has to be prepared for upcoming 12 Hours Run in Delhi and in other long distance competitions.
It has been informed that out of 80 ultra runners from different parts of the country, only 60 have successfully completed this 12 Hours Stadium Run. The first position holder covered a distance of 116 km, while the second covered 109 km and the third covered the distance of 105 km in 12 hours. The event was organised by the Bangalore-based NEB Sports Entertainment.
