A young team of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) has come back home with seven medals for the State from the 34th edition of Sub-Junior National Kyorugi and 8th Sub-Junior National Poomsae Taekwondo Championship 2018.
The four-day championship was organized by Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) from March 22-25 in Pune.
The State team has bagged five gold and two bronze medals for Sikkim. Kritika Pradhan won a gold medal each in Pair Poomsae and Girls Team Poomsae and Chittiz Pradhan also won a gold medal in Pair Poomsae and a bronze medal in Individual Poomsae.
Likewise, Anushka Subba and Yangzey Tamang won a gold medal each in Girls Team Poomsae and Gokarna Chettri won a bronze medal in U-44 kg Kyorugi.
The 26-member State team was accompanied by Suman Tamang and Phurba Sherpa as coaches in Kyorugi and Pradeep Mukhia and Pritam Thapa as coaches for Poomsae. The team also accompanied by Kumar Pradhan and Sunumaya Tamang as managers in Poomsae and Nima Sherpa and Karma Ongmu Bhutia as managers in Kyorugi.
In a small function held at White Hall in Gangtok this evening, SATA felicitated the medal winners and coaches for winning laurels for the State.
SATA Joint Secretary, Rajen Subba congratulated medal winners and members of the State team for their performance in the championship. He encouraged young martial artists to continue with their hard practice to improve their performance in the future competition.
Team coach, Suman Tamang mentioned that although most of team members were fresher’s they gave an outstanding performance in the national championship. “All these young martial artists are promising and have full potential to do well in the national and international levels if they go with same form and performances,” he said.
Likewise, team manager, Karma Ongmu Bhutia appreciated the performance by the State team members. She also urged the young team members to work hard to do well in upcoming championships.
