Gangtok: Sikkim Sports & Youth Affairs Department emerged as the champion of the 6th Inter Departmental Football Tournament 2018 played at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

In the neck-to-neck played final match on Monday afternoon, Sports & Youth Affairs Department edged past the Transport Department by a solitary goal.

The Transport Department secured its berth in the final round by defeated Energy & Power Department in the tie-breaker, while Sports & Youth Affairs Department edged past Sadar Thana to enter into the finals of the tournament.

Both the teams played an attacking game from the start but missed the net on different occasion to take the lead in the match.

The first half of the match ended goalless draw.

The second half was again full of attacks and counter-attacks but both teams failed to score any goal and the match was seems to be ended goalless until the referee gave the penalty shot to Sports & Youth Affairs Department for a handball of a Transports Department defender in the D-box areas in the dying seconds of the match.

Ongchuk Lepcha successfully converted this golden opportunity into the winning goal for Sports & Youth Affairs Department.

Sikkim Democratic Front party secretary (administration), Amos R Lepcha, who was present as the chief guest, gave away cash prizes,individual trophies and winning and runners-up trophies to its winners. Theorganisers have presented the cash prizes of Rs 1 lakh to the winner and Rs50,000 to runners-up.

Wilson Rai of Horticulture Department has been adjudged asthe Best Goal Keeper of the Tournament, while Man of the Tournament trophy waspresented to Birbal Rai of Finance Department and Fair Play Trophy to Energy& Power Department.

Likewise, Michael Lepcha of Sports & Youth Affairs Department received the Highest Scorer trophy for his 7 goals in the tournament and Man of the Final Match trophy was given to Amos Subba of Sports & Youth Affairs.
