Doordarshan Kendra, Gangtok has shot a documentary film on Sherpa traditional folk culture at Perbing village, South Sikkim on Friday and Saturday.

The filming is a part of a 13-episode TV serial on various communities of Sikkim to be telecast on DD Kisan Channel and the episode on Sherpa community is one of them. The whole episode has been conceptualized and directed by Chunnilal Ghimiray.
Gyalpo Losar celebration, Sherpa marriage rituals, Chhyang bi, food habits, daily living and other existing rituals and practices were captured over a period of two days, informed a press release.

The filmmakers were assisted by cultural experts, artists, monks and local people.

The shooting was coordinated by Sherpa cultural experts Passang R. Sherpa and Mingma Topden Sherpa with the help of locals under the supervision of Denzong Sherpa Association.

General secretary Dendup Sherpa and joint secretary Dorjee Sherpa Pinasa were also actively involved in the overall process of the shooting.
