A senior leader of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Nuk Tshering Bhutia, who is popularly known as Melli Sonam, has resigned from the party on Tuesday.

He has submitted his resignation letter to the party at SKM head-office in Gangtok. He was a founding member of the party and worked in different capacities in the party and presently he was the state coordinator of the party.

Addressing a press conference in Gangtok on Tuesday, Bhutia said, “I have no more belief in the SKM party and leadership of P S Golay. So, I have decided to resign from the party.”

He further alleged of facing great injustice in the distribution of the party ticket in this 2019 election. “I was also an aspiring candidate in this election from Martam-Rumtek constituency. Despite being the most deserving candidate and choice of the people of the constituency, I was denied party ticket due to pressure of few leaders in the high command,” he said.

He added that the party has totally ignored the voice of the people of the constituency.

He added that being a dedicated and honest party worker of SKM since inception there was no other reason for not to give the party ticket. “Later I realized that the only reason for not giving me the party ticket is the case I filed in 1998 on which P S Golay got convicted and faced one year imprisonment,” he said.

However, he stated that the case was not filed against P S Golay but he had asked for the CBI inquiry in the cow distribution scheme.

While alleging that there was no cadre system in SKM party, he questioned that how the party gave the ticket to a person who has recently joined the party and not having any contribution and support to the party.

He further alleged injustice to youths and women in the party in the ticket distribution process. He also expressed his dissatisfaction on the act of Golay for not taking deserving candidates and workers of the party into confidence before giving the party tickets to new member instead of founders and active members.

Bhutia hinted to join the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party with huge numbers of supporters from the constituency.
