The second draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published in Assam very soon. The Register General of India Sailesh informed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard on Monday.
“Another draft list comprising remaining applicants will be published subsequently after completion of their verification. The process is being undertaken in a fair and objective manner and under monitoring of the Supreme Court. After the publication of the complete draft NRC, claims and objections will be invited,” Register General of India Sailesh informed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Singh was elaborately informed about the progress of update of NRC, completion of the activities relating to National Population Register, measures to improve and strengthen the Civil Registration System and the road map for undertaking the Census in 2021.
The first part of draft list covering 1.9 crore applicants in respect of whom the process of verification has been completed has been published on December 31 last year.
Meanwhile, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval on Monday reviewed the internal security situation of Assam with top officials of the State Government in view of the publication of the first draft of NRC.

Senior government officials from New Delhi and Dispur including Union Home Secretary Rajib Gauva, Assam Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, DGP Mukesh Sahay among others were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Union Home Ministry was also informed that the works relating to National Population Register updated in 2015 have been completed in most of the States. Measures have also been taken to undertake Census 2021 work in this current year. Measures include firming up the design, stakeholders meeting and pilot exercise in selected states.
The Home Minister who chaired a meeting with top government officials recently was also informed about the progress of Civil Registration System and it was brought out that registration level of birth is 88 per cent and death is about 76.6 per cent at an all India level.
