Guwahati: Raj Kumar Chaudhary assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited on Wednesday, said an official.
The announcement was made by the company on Thursday. Chaudhary, previously serving as the Director (Technical) at NHPC, brings a wealth of experience to the position.
A graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT Sindri and holder of an Advanced Diploma in Management, Chaudhary embarked on his career with NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at the Koel Karo Hydroelectric Project in Jharkhand.
Over the years, he has held key positions across the organization, demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise in the hydropower sector.
His career highlights include significant contributions to projects like Kalpong, Teesta-V, Subansiri Lower at Gerukamukh along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, and Mangdechhu & Punatsangchhu-II.
Chaudhary’s involvement spanned from conceptualization to commissioning, showcasing his comprehensive understanding of the hydropower development lifecycle.
A notable achievement was the commissioning of the Kalpong Hydroelectric Project 16 months ahead of schedule, a remarkable feat considering its remote location in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
His expertise was instrumental in the successful commissioning of the Teesta-V and Mangdechhu projects as well.
