Nature continued to unleash its fury across the North-east.
This time, the South West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya bore the brunt of nature’s fury when a massive thunderstorm lashed through the district.
The storm caused extensive damage in the district headquarters of Ampati.
Even as Ampati is getting ready for the by-poll after former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma relinquished his seat, the thunderstorm had left a trail of destruction at Ampati.
The scene was no different as the whole town wore a picture of destruction with uprooted trees, torn branches scattered all over the places, power lines snapped and damaged roofs of several houses.
The uprooted trees blocked several roads across the town giving a harrowing time to the commuters in the morning.
The cyclonic storm, accompanied by strong winds and hail, also extensively damaged standing crops and plantations across the region.
This is the second major storm to hit Garo Hills in less than a week.
Notably, another important town of the Garo Hills, Tura and its suburbs faced the wrath of nature on Monday last when a powerful storm uprooted several trees and electricity supply poles and damaged several thatched houses.
The offices of the Superintendent of Police and the District Information and Public Relations (DIPR) were badly damaged in the storm where uprooted trees fell on the rooftops of both the offices.
According to initial assessment, around thirteen houses were damaged, three of them completely, in Ampati because of the storm.
A complete blanket of hail covered the entire town in the morning where open fields wore a while gown.
