Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has condemned the alleged killing of two Kuki women in Muktokhal (Leisangphai) village and accused National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) and ZUF (Kamson) of carrying out the attack.
In a statement, the organisation said six Kuki villagers had reportedly been killed over the past three days, including the two women killed on Tuesday.
According to the organisation, Chong’a Sitlhou and Kimboi Singson, residents of Muktokhal (Leisangphai), had gone to their jhum fields when they were allegedly waylaid and shot dead.
The organisation expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and condemned what it described as attacks on innocent civilians.
Questioning the response of the Central and state governments, the Kuki Inpi asked how long the authorities would remain silent over what it described as repeated attacks on Kuki-Zo civilians. It called for immediate measures to protect vulnerable villages and prevent further violence.
The organisation said the Kuki people had exercised restraint despite what it described as repeated provocations and the loss of innocent lives. It also said it recognised that many Nagas did not support violence and wanted peace and peaceful coexistence between the two communities.
The Kuki Inpi said continued attacks by armed groups such as NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson) could further damage relations between the Kuki and Naga communities.
It called on the Central and state governments to act immediately to stop further attacks, protect civilians, ensure the security of vulnerable villages and bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
The organisation warned that continued inaction could have serious consequences and urged what it described as immediate and credible intervention to prevent further loss of life, restore public confidence and avert a wider escalation of conflict.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur also said it had decided not to claim the mortal remains of the two women until justice was secured.
