Following the Central Government’s decision to cut the prices of petrol and diesel, at least 11 States have also lowered levies to make the petrol and diesel cheaper.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government cut the excise duty on auto fuels by Rs 1.50 per litre, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Finance Minister also asked State-run oil marketers to cut retail prices by Re 1, taking the total benefit to Rs 2.5. The reduced prices will be effective from midnight today.
Immediately after the Central Government’s decision to cut Rs 2.5 in petrol and diesel prices per litre, in order to give relief to the consumers of Arunachal Pradesh, the Pema Khandu Government has also decided to cut the prices of petrol and diesel prices in the northeastern State by Rs 2.50 per litre making the prices of the auto fuels cut by Rs 5 from the existing rate.
Informing about the Arunachal Government’s decision in this regard, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on his Twitter handle on Thursday stated: “I am happy to announce that Govt of Arunachal has decided to reduce the price of petrol and diesel by ?2.5 per litre, following the Finance Minister Sri Arun Jaitley’s decision to cut the prices of petrol & diesel by same rate – making it ?5 less than the prevailing rates.”

On Thursday, the price of petrol per litre in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh is Rs. 79.53 while the price of diesel per litre is Rs. 72.51.
Meanwhile, the prices of petrol and diesel in Assam will also go down by Rs 5 from the existing rate.
This was announced by Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his Twitter handle on Thursday.
Assam Finance Minister Sarma on his Twitter handle on Thursday stated that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has announced to cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre while the Assam Government has also decided to reduce the current prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre. This will reduce the current prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs 5 per litre.
Sarma had tweeted: “Following Fin Minister Sri Arun Jaitley announcement of cut of Rs 2.50 per litre in petrol & diesel prices, glad to share that Assam Govt has also decided to reduce Rs 2.50 on both petrol & diesel per litre, making it Rs 5 less than prevailing rates.”
