The Indian National Congress on Thursday came down heavily on the Central Government immediately after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Union Budget for the financial 2018-19 in the parliament alleging discrimination against the North-east.
Addressing the media immediately after Jaitley’s budget speech on Thursday, national spokesperson of the Congress, Tom Vadakkan who is in Shillong, said the budget has nothing for the north-eastern region and the Congress would take up this issue during campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections in the three north-eastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
Vadakkan, while criticizing the Budget in strong words, said the country’s economy is in utter chaos and the people had high hopes from the Budget.
He also criticized the Narendra Modi government on demonetization saying it had blocked several roads of employment opportunities.
On the success of the party in the Rajasthan by-polls, Vadakkan said the Bharatiya Janata Party should learn a lesson or two otherwise the same fate awaits them during the ensuing polls in the three north-eastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
Tripura goes to polls on February 18, while voting in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held on February 27.
Counting of votes in all the three states will commence on March 3.
