A student from Assam, who was studying at University of Maryland in Washington DC, found dead in a mysterious condition in the university campus recently.
The student is Udayaditya Konwar who was the champion of the university in mixed martial arts (MMA).
But the university authority has allegedly made no communication to the parents of the student so far.
The parents are struggling to get the coffin of their son, who died on July 29, 2019.
According to information, the Baltimore police in US, who were investigating into the case, have concluded that Konwar had committed suicide but refused autopsy.
A brilliant student, Konwar, who did his schooling in Assam Valley School at Tezpur and Pathways World School at Gurgaon, started studying in University of Maryland, College Park in 2016.
He was studying degree course in physics and was a top MMA athlete.
Several Twitteraties have expressed their concern over the death of the talented student and athlete terming the stand of the university authority ‘insensitive’.
A corporate banker, Bhargab Sarma, on his Twitter handle stated: Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from @UMBaltimore.”
“Udayaditya passed away on 29/07 but no official communication till 02/08. Baltimore police have concluded suicide and refused autopsy. Circumstances of the death are extremely suspicious but the university has been apathetic,” he tweeted.
Jugal K Mahanta, a former student leader, also tweeted: “A child from Assam Udayaditya Konwar who was a student of University of #Maryland #WashingtonDC was found dead in the uni campus on 29th July under a mysterious condition but parents were not officially informed by the university or any condolences till today.”
Bhargab Sarma in another tweet said: “Grief stricken parents and relatives are struggling to get the coffin back to India. Please can the media pick up this story as it does not bode well for the safety of the thousands of Indian students in the US.”
