In the name of family tree verification for inclusion of names in the updated National Register of Citizens (NRC), reports of genuine Indian citizens have been harassed are coming in from different parts of the Cachar district.

Sources said, “There is no proper work culture in many of the NRC Seva Kendras and the officials concerned have harassed the people with ill behaviour.”

Several Indian citizens have complained about the harassments being meted out to them in the respective NRC Seva Kendra. Complaints of harassment have come from Srikona Daily Bazar, Tikolpaar, DNNK School at Silchar, Kalain and some other NRC Kendras.

As per the allegations being levelled against these NRC Seva Kendras are that these Seva Kendras have not maintained any time table regarding opening and closing of the office.

“Officially the opening time is 9 am. But most the NRC Seva Kendras do not properly follow the guidelines set by the government and the Seva Kendras open at 12 pm,” sources alleged.

Sources also alleged that Local Registrars of Citizen Registration (LRCRs) and other officials often remain absent in their respective Seva Kendras. “Some officials do not behave gently with the people,” claimed sources.

Many people have also complained that their documents have not been uploaded in computer.

“Many people from Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam’s Tinsukia and other remote places also visited the NRC Seva Kendra in Cachar on due date as mentioned in their notices.  But some of them have not able to get their documents uploaded. They have also been asked to come in another date to their respective Seva Kendras for verification of their documents. This has irritated many genuine Indian citizens,” added sources.

Question has arisen, if the documents of the Indian citizens are not uploaded in computer, then how the notices could be served to the citizens concerned.
