National Register of Citizen (NRC) Observer Amlan Baruah during his visit to Diphu in Karbi Anglong district interacted with leading citizens, common people, students, social organisations and political parties on the NRC update issue at the Conference Hall of Circuit House, Diphu.
Later during a press conference organised by the district administration at the Circuit House, Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan said, “NRC’s family tree verification process will start from February 15 across the State and in Karbi Anglong, the process will be done by 42 NRC Seva Kendras.”
The information regarding family tree provided by the applicants for inclusion of their names in the NRC have been scrutinized but there are some mismatches in the family tree linkage, said Khan.
The first phase of verification will be conducted from February 15, the second phase of verification will be conducted in 10 centres in Karbi Anglong while the third phase of verification will be done at the Deputy Commissioner’s office with one centre, he added.
The concerned people with family tree linkage mismatch will be called to the centres and in this regard a Letter of Information (LOI) will be sent if required, said Khan adding, “Those, who receive LOIs, should not be apprehensive as it is not an indication of being considered doubtful or exclusion from the NRC.”
Some applicants, whose names have been included in the part draft of NRC, might also get LOI to prevent misuse of their legacy data by any other person, he added.
NRC Observer Baruah also said, “The NRC update process in Karbi Anglong has been going on in a peaceful way.”
He urged all the people of Karbi Anglong to extend their support and co-operate in the NRC update process.
When asked about the demand for publication of the draft NRC in English in Karbi Anglong, Baruah said, “The final draft publication will be bi-lingual, i.e. and it will be available both in English and Assamese language.”
Superintending of Police, Dr GV Siva Prasad was also present at the press conference.
