In a tragic incident, a newborn baby received injury in the nose due to mistake of the doctor on duty while the mother was forced to deliver her baby.
The incident happened in the Dharmanagar District Hospital on Sunday.
The incident has triggered huge resentment among the people.
Reportedly, the mother, identified as 25-year-old Pinku Nath and her husband, Kabindra Nath, are residents of Dewanpasa village.
The mother was brought to the hospital in critical condition. However, during the delivery period in the labour room a sharp weapon in the hand of Dr Apratim Debbarma, accidentally injured the nose of the newborn.
The baby immediately needed stitches as a preliminary treatment.
On this issue, the surgeon of the hospital (Dr Barua) stated the mistake took place accidentally as the mother was forced to deliver for saving both the mother and the child.
The hospital wanted to provide better treatment of the child in Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) but the couple has preferred to shift the child to Makunda Christian Hospital in Assam’s Karimganj district.
“To treat a patient during emergency, there is no proper facility in the district hospital. The patients have to always run outside the State for treatment,” said locals.
