kameng dam

A day after Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti’s (KMSS) demand to terminate the construction work of 168 dams in Arunachal Pradesh, NEEPCO has reportedly stopped the survey works for new projects in the State.

In the last few years, the NEEPCO has made no efforts to start the Kurung HE Project (330 MW), Siang HE project (3750), Nafra HE project (120 MW) and Dibin HE Project (160 MW).

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi expressed concern over the cracks at 600 MW Kameng dam in the earthquake prone Arunachal Pradesh on May 6.

In a press release earlier, Akhil Gogoi said, “The crack in the dam during its experiment before production of electricity has proved its destructive nature. Assam will have to face severe consequences once the construction is complete.”

Akhil Gogoi furthur added, “Construction of dam in the earthquake prone Arunachal Pradesh is not safe.”

Earlier KMSS along with several organizations expressed their concern over the possible effects that Assam will have to face after the construction of the dams.

Arunachal Pradesh is able to produce 1115 MW power from Ranganadi, Pare and Kameng hydro-electric projects installed by NEEPCO.
