‘A Respectable Woman’, a new novel by noted author Dr Easterine Kire, which is set in Nagaland‘s State capital Kohima, will hit the stand this month.

The book will be made available both online and in bookstores, informed the publisher of the book, Zubaan Books.

The book with 220 pages has a story on the World War II.

Informing about the book on its official Twitter handle, recently, Zubaan Books stated: “And we’ll be hitting the ground running in 2019, with a new novel by the masterful Easterine Kire: ‘A Respectable Woman’, set in Kohima, Nagaland.”

While uploading the cover of the book, Zubaan Books tweeted: “Coming to you online and in bookstores in January. Here’s a first look at the cover.”

Easterine Kire, who has more than 20 English language published books, is also a poet.

The noted author currently lives in northern Norway.

Kire, who was born in March 1959 to an Angami Naga family in Nagaland, did her schooling in Kohima.

Most of her writings are based in the realities of the people in Nagaland.

She has won several awards including ‘Catalan PEN International Free Voice Award, 2013’, ‘Governor’s award for excellence in Naga literature, 2011’,  ‘Silver medal for Best creative writing from the Bertrand Russell Study Forum, Madras.’

The story of ‘A Respectable Woman’ describes the aftermath of World War II when the Japanese started to depart.

The writer portrays a picture of the political unrest and tremendous social changes which generated new social problems after the war.

For returning soldiers and others dealing with the aftermath of war, alcohol provided some relief and a way of dealing with new realities.

In her new novel, Dr Kire has explored one woman’s journey through the altered realities. In doing so, the author has uncovered the underbelly of a society in transition — one that is reluctant to cast off traditional ways even as it entangles itself in the problems of the modern world.

And we'll be hitting the ground running in 2019, with a new novel by the masterful #EasterineKire: 'A Respectable Woman', set in Kohima, Nagaland.
