Dimapur: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Choudhary visited Noklak district as part of the ongoing fortnight-long visit of Union ministers to the northeastern region.
On Saturday, Choudhary visited the Village Guard Museum at New Pangsha village, located near the India-Myanmar border. Addressing the local community, he emphasised the urgent need to establish a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in the district to boost agricultural productivity and improve farmersโ livelihoods.
Urging farmers to apply for the PM-KISAN credit card, the minister said the growth of agriculture is fundamental to the overall development of the nation.
During his interaction with farmers, Choudhary sought feedback on challenges faced at the grassroots level and listened to their grievances. He also enquired about government support for crop losses and sought information on the status of women empowerment in the district.
The minister further raised concerns over the prevalence of drug abuse in the region and reviewed measures being taken to curb the problem.Community members from Pangsha highlighted their difficulties and stressed the need for modern agricultural machinery to enable more efficient farming practices.
Choudhary later held a security review meeting with security officials at the International Trade Centre in Dan.
A day earlier, on Friday, the minister interacted with departmental officers at Noklak tourist circuit to review the districtโs developmental progress. During the meeting, he assured that a Krishi Vigyan Kendra would be established in Noklak district to strengthen agricultural extension services and provide sustained support to local farmers.
