Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and Assembly by-polls in Nagaland, leaders of the Nagaland BJP including H.K. Khulu and Dr. Kuhoi Zhimomi quit the BJP from the primary membership with immediate effect.
H.K. Khulu is an retred IAS officer, state executive member of the Nagaland BJP and a former chairman of the finance & development committee of the state BJP while Dr. Kuhoi Zhimomi is a former executive member of the Nagaland BJP.

In joint resignation letter signed by Khulu and Dr Kuhoi Zhimomi and Anito Khulu, the Nagaland BJP leaders mentioned that they have regined from the primary membership of the party as they “cannot agree with the principles and philosophy of the BJP party in general, particularly Hindutva policy the present dispensation in the state led by the state president and the behaviour and functioning of the of organising secretary Anantha Mishra is highly objectionable”.
H.K. Khulu is an retred IAS officer, state executive member of the Nagaland BJP and former former chairman of the finance & development committee of the state BJP.
According to information, the office-bearers of BJP’s Zunheboto district committee also decided to resign from the primary membership of the party.

The Nagaland BJP leaders who have resigned from the party have also mentioned that they oppose the BJP’s stand in favour of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and other issues.
BJP’s national president Amit Shah in a recent rally in Assam’s Lakhimpur district reitereated that the BJP-led NDA government would again bring the Bill and get it passed if it comes to power.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8, 2019, lapsed in Rajya Sabha due to strong protests against it.
According to information, the other office-bearers of the Nagalsd who have also quit the party include former executive member of Nagaland BJP – Zandi Domta; general secretary of the Zunheboto unit of Nagaland BJP – Vitoli Chophy; secretary of Zunheboto unit of BJP – Oto Shikhu and general secretary, BJYM, Zunheboto, Nagaland BJP – Ivuka Z.
It may be mentioned that most of the organisations and political parties acrioss the Northeast raised voice against passing of the Citizenship Bill, 2016 in the Parliament.
Although the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha, ahead of the proposed tabling of the Bill in the Rajya sabha, most of the governments ruled by the allies of the BJP and even BJP-led governments in the Northeast voiced against the Bill.
The Congress extended support to prevent tabling of the Bill in the Rajya Sabha and finally it lapsed in the Upper Hoiuse.
