Former Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma

In a noble gesture to mitigate inconvenience to citizens, the Nagaland police have decided to accept online applications for jobs under the department soon.

State police chief Rupin Sharma in a circular through social media said the police department is in the process of developing a prototype form which citizens can use and access with a mobile phone with an internet connection to submit application. He also shared the sample form for public feedback with the links for guidelines: https://www.nagapol.in/job/guideline, for job application https://www.nagapol.in/job/application.

The department has taken the initiative as senior officers, including the DGP, at the police headquarters keep receiving large number of visitors every day, most of them “job seekers”, for various posts, the circular said.

Sharma, however, stated there are not too many vacancies to be filled up as the department is already having excess strength of employees, 27,000 to be exact.

The DGP regrets that ordinary citizens have been travelling from far and wide, from all parts of Nagaland to seek jobs. “Most are ignorant about the government procedures and limitations and expect that we would be able to sign off appointment letters if they meet us or get a signature. This is truly not the case,” Sharma pointed out.

While job-seekers would be disappointed at not getting the jobs, on their part, Sharma said the police department felt guilty that ignorant citizens have to travel to Kohima to meet them and in the process spending hard-earned money or at times money which they may have borrowed from relatives or friends, further increasing their troubles.

The DGP calculated that on an average, person travelling from an interior district ends up spending Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 for a single journey of 3-4 days to Kohima.
