In a noble initiative, Nagaland Police on Saturday officially launched the tourist police in association with the Tourism Department.

This special squad that will ensure safety of tourists, especially in the face of increase in tourist inflow, both domestic and foreign, into the State for the popular annual Hornbill Festival at Kisama, according to Nagaland Post.
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural programme for orientation of tourist police personnel at the police headquarters in Kohima, Nagaland DGP, T J Longkumer called upon the tourist police personnel not only to be proactive but also well equipped with the knowledge of the Naga culture, so that they would be able to give proper information to the tourists.
He also directed the police personnel to strictly deal with anti-social elements and to ensure that the law of the land was maintained at all cost.
Longkumer also said that tourist policemen should also be well dressed, courteous and also urged them to give a more patient hearing to tourists.
The DGP further insisted that local taxi drivers should at least wear tribal waist coat in order to attract tourists, which will also signify the diverse Naga culture.
DGP also informed that the department has acquired vehicles, bikes and also an ambulance to ensure that tourists who get lost are safely dropped to their hotels or home stay and for emergency purposes.
