Dimapur: The Nagaland Legislative Assembly is all set to celebrate its 60th anniversary on October 29.

The celebrations include hectic week-long activities of social works within the Assembly premises that began on October 21.

These social works are led by Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and Deputy Speaker S Toiho Yeptho.

To be celebrated on the theme ‘Embracing Innovation and Celebrating Legacy,’ the 60th anniversary will witness a gathering of Governor La Ganesan and all members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Former parliamentarians of the state besides other dignitaries will also be part of the celebrations.

Nagaland became a state on December 1, 1963.

After election in January 1964, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly was formed on February 11 the same year.

In 1974, the strength of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly was increased to 60 members.
