At least 8 Covid19 patients of the state, who are currently undergoing treatment at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), have tested negative for the virus, Mizoram health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana said on Thursday.

He said the patients are among the 11 people from Kolasib district, who tested positive for Covid19 on June 1.

“The 8 patients have tested negative twice and are likely to be discharged from ZMC on Friday,” Lalthangliana said.

According to the health minister, 9 more people, including 6 females, have tested positive for Covid19 on Thursday, taking the tally to 130.

The new cases were confirmed at ZMC on Wednesday night, he said.

The health minister said a total of 615 samples were tested for Covid19 at ZMC on Wednesday, of which 9 were confirmed as positive and 499 as negative.

Results of 107 samples were awaited, he said.

According to Lalthangliana, 4 of the newly-infected 9 patients have returned from Delhi while 4 others came from Haryana and one from Maharashtra.

South Mizoram’s Lawngtlai and Siaha districts have reported 4 new cases each while one case has been reported from Lunglei district, he said.

All the patients, aged between 19 and 32, are asymptomatic and are out of danger, he said.

Currently, there are 121 active cases in Mizoram, excluding those 8 who have tested negative twice.

The first patient, who tested positive on March 24, recovered and discharged from ZMC on May 9.
